No one accredits breathwork
Massage therapy has state licensing and yoga has a widely used registry (Yoga Alliance). Breathwork has neither: no government licence and no standard every school follows. The closest thing to a benchmark is the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance, a paid membership body that asks certified practitioners for at least 400 training hours over two years plus 8 hours of ethics training. It's a membership standard, not a licence. "Certified" means certified by that school. Look at hours of supervised practice, how they handle screening and contraindications, and whether graduates actually find clients.
Pick the style before the school
Conscious connected and holotropic styles aim for big emotional release in a group. Functional styles like Buteyko and Oxygen Advantage retrain everyday breathing for sleep, anxiety and sport. Pranayama sits inside yoga. Each leads to different clients.
